Terence Crawford Reigns Again As BWAA's Pound-For-Pound Best

The Boxing Writers Association of America will be listing on a bi-monthly basis its top-10 pound-for-pound fighters in the world.

Terence Crawford maintains his position atop the BWAA’s pound-for-pound best, which is selected by BWAA members from respected news outlets and is broken down based on a descending points system, with a first-place vote receiving 10 points, a second-place vote receiving nine points and so on. Ties go to the fighter with the most votes.

All BWAA members, full and auxiliary, can send their top-10 pound-for-pound votes in by the first Monday of each even month to JSantoliquitoBWAA@yahoo.com. The next deadline will be Monday, February 5, 2018, with the results posted the first week of that month.

Crawford, the undisputed junior welterweight champion, received more first-pace votes than any other fighter. There wasn’t any shakeup among the top four, with Crawford holding the top spot followed in order by Vasyl Lomachenko at No. 2, Gennady Golovkin at No. 3 and Canelo Alvarez at No. 4. The big jump came with Keith Thurman vaulting from No. 7 to No. 5, switching places with featherweight Guillermo Rigondeaux, who drops to No. 7.

The new addition is junior bantamweight Srisaket Sor Rungvisai, while undefeated Japanese junior bantamweight Naoya Inoue exits, and Sergey Kovalev moves up from No.10 to No. 9. Garcia and Rigondeaux were tied with 70 points each, but the tiebreaker fell to which fighter received the most votes. It was same case for Kovalev and Sor Rungvisai.
